Review of green mobility strategy for public transport by DSCE
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), led the 82nd virtual meeting of the Council, with HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE, in attendance. Also present were key members like Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, along with board members from various organizations such as Dubai Municipality, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Dubai Petroleum, and Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).
During the meeting, the council delved into the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, which aims to boost green and sustainable transportation in Dubai to align with the Emirate’s strategic objectives on sustainability, air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. RTA presented the Green Mobility Strategy, focusing on increasing the prevalence of electric and hybrid vehicles within its fleet in the coming years.
This initiative is in coordination with national efforts to promote sustainable development and cut down carbon emissions across public transportation modes like buses, taxis, and the metro. RTA outlined a roadmap with annual programs and initiatives geared towards making all public transport means carbon-free by 2050.
The council also reviewed the progress of its annual management plan, assessing Key Performance Indicators aligned with the yearly programs and projects designed to bolster governance over the water, electricity, energy, and central cooling sectors.
In a statement, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized the Council’s commitment to realizing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He highlighted the goal of positioning Dubai as a global leader in smart and sustainable urban development, with a focus on eco-friendly transportation to enhance the city’s livability for present and future generations. Al Tayer affirmed the Council’s dedication to implementing strategic plans that reflect the leadership’s vision in providing top-notch services to elevate the quality of life for all individuals in Dubai.
