‘Progress Accelerates for Rail Link between UAE and Oman’

The much-anticipated railway connection between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman has reached a significant milestone. Hafeet Rail, the joint venture overseeing the project, has announced that it has moved from the planning phase to full-scale implementation. This development is a promising step for both countries, as it will lead to increased economic integration and improved travel options.

The billion project will create a direct railway line linking Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi to Sohar, a key port city in Oman. The railway will pass through diverse landscapes, including deserts, mountains, and valleys, following the route of Jebel Hafeet, which inspired the project’s new name, Hafeet Rail.

Hafeet Rail has replaced its previous title, Oman and Etihad Rail Company, to highlight the collaborative nature of the endeavor. The UAE and Oman have awarded major contracts to a consortium of companies from both nations, demonstrating their dedication to working together as a unified team. This collaborative effort is expected to benefit businesses on both sides of the border by simplifying trade and logistics processes.

CEO of Hafeet Rail, Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, is optimistic about the project’s potential to stimulate economic and industrial cooperation. He believes that the railway will have a significant impact on passenger travel, promoting tourism and strengthening ties between the two countries. The new rail network is set to provide a safe, secure, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

With the UAE already having a national railway network, the connection to Oman will further extend its reach. This will allow passengers and cargo to travel seamlessly between the two countries, creating new trade opportunities and encouraging cultural exchanges. The project is expected to foster a more integrated GCC region, promoting collaboration in various economic and social spheres.

The UAE-Oman railway is a groundbreaking infrastructure project that symbolizes the deepening relationship between the two Gulf nations. As implementation progresses, the project is positioned to deliver economic and social benefits for years to come.
