Many artists at this music festival in Portland are local

Downtown Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square is set to host the annual music festival PDX Live once again. Organized by True West, this year’s concert series will showcase a diverse lineup of musicians from across genres, with a special focus on artists from the Pacific Northwest.

The festival will kick off on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, with riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney sharing the stage with Australia’s Amyl and the Sniffers. Riot grrrl music originated in Olympia, Washington in the early 1990s as more than just music but also as a community and feminism movement.

Other highlights of PDX Live 2024 include performances by Portland legend Toody Cole with Waxahatchee, punk band Descendents, indie singer-songwriter Ethel Cain, and critically acclaimed band Yo La Tengo. International acts like The Japanese House and Alvvays will also be performing, bringing their tours to Portland from the U.K. and Canada, respectively.

The series will culminate on Aug. 21 with Sunny Day Real Estate celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Diary.”

The full festival lineup includes a range of artists and bands performing on various dates throughout the festival. Fans can purchase tickets starting Friday at 10 a.m. on the PDX-LIVE.com website. There are also presales available for concertgoers who follow the artists, bands, and True West on social media.

True West booker Trevor Solomon expressed his intention to honor the bands that influence the Pacific Northwest music scene with this lineup. The festival aims to bring together musicians from the region and beyond to create a vibrant musical experience for attendees.

Last year, Pioneer Courthouse Square transformed into a 3,000-person open-air music venue hosting bands like Fleet Foxes, Patti Smith, and beabadoobee. This year’s PDX Live promises to continue the tradition of showcasing top talent and creating a lively atmosphere in downtown Portland.
