‘Luxury Lounge at BIA Joins First Class Passengers in Avurudu Celebration’

Emirates Airlines to Offer Traditional Sri Lankan Festive Fare for Premium Passengers at BIA Lounge

Emirates Airlines is set to delight its premium passengers with a unique culinary experience at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) lounge in Colombo on 13 and 14 April. In celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in Sri Lanka, Emirates will be serving traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats and dishes that are typically enjoyed during this festive time.

Known locally as ‘Avurudu,’ the New Year celebrations in Sri Lanka are a time to mark the beginning of a new year and express gratitude to the sun for a successful harvest. Emirates will showcase classic Sri Lankan delicacies such as ‘kiribath,’ ‘kokis,’ ‘mung kevum,’ ‘aluwa,’ ‘welithalapa,’ and ‘peni walalu’ to its departing First and Business Class passengers. Additionally, a delicious Sri Lankan hot meal will be served to passengers during lunchtime at the lounge.

The Emirates lounge at BIA, spanning 5,778 square feet, provides a luxurious and comfortable environment for First Class and Business Class passengers as well as select Skywards members. With amenities such as leather armchairs, a dining area, and a Business Centre, passengers can relax and unwind before their flights. The lounge also features a prayer room, shower facilities, and washrooms for added convenience.
