“Dnata’s Cargo Services in Dubai Reach new Heights with Autonomous Drones”

dnata, a global leader in air and travel services, has successfully incorporated autonomous drones into its cargo operations in Dubai, UAE, resulting in significant improvements in efficiency and service quality for airline customers at Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) airports. The introduction of drones has led to a 20 percent reduction in processing times for rack inventories and achieved over 99 percent accuracy in shipment tracking.

In a move demonstrating dnata’s commitment to innovation and excellence, the company became the first cargo services provider in the UAE to implement drones in its operations back in 2021. These drones have seamlessly integrated into daily workflow and warehouse inventory processes, monitoring approximately 1,800 shipments daily with 99 percent accuracy across 2,400 rack locations.

Utilizing advanced software from their partner Gather AI, the drones are able to map the environment, gather inventory data, count cases, measure temperature, and read barcodes using only their cameras, without the need for additional active infrastructure. The drones are connected to a tablet device that provides live inventory data, allowing for easy monitoring through a user-friendly application or web dashboard. This automation of routine tasks frees up human resources for more complex responsibilities, ultimately increasing overall workforce productivity.

Moreover, the use of drones has not only improved efficiency but also contributed to reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing safety by minimizing the need for mobile elevating work platforms and man lifts in the warehouse. These drones can operate in temperatures ranging from 0 to +50 degrees Celsius within closed environments, making them suitable for deployment in dnata’s advanced cool chain facilities as well. The company has plans to introduce drones at additional stations across its global cargo network in the upcoming years.

Guillaume Crozier, dnata’s Senior Vice President for UAE Cargo and Global Cargo Strategy, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes brought by the drone technology, emphasizing their precision and reliability in enhancing efficiency levels. He highlighted the positive impact on airline customers in terms of accuracy, reduced turnaround times, and smoother logistics operations, reaffirming dnata’s commitment to delivering top-notch services through cutting-edge technologies.

Sankalp Arora, CEO & Co-founder of Gather AI, commended the collaboration between Gather AI and dnata, describing the autonomous inventory drones as operational game-changers that provide real-time transparency into inventory and air cargo processes. He praised dnata for being at the forefront of the digital revolution in air cargo and expressed pride in their role as technology partners in bringing this vision to life.
