‘Creativity shines as Kiwi innovation in Gallipoli Anzac Day ceremony’

A commander involved in Anzac Day services in Gallipoli expressed pride in his contingent for overcoming the challenge of lost luggage during transit. Despite uniforms and instruments going missing in the Dubai floods, New Zealand Defence Force representatives participated fully in the ceremonies. Major Peter Bowyer highlighted the Kiwi ingenuity that allowed them to swap and resize the uniforms they did have, ensuring a fantastic representation.

Members without roles in the ceremony wore civilian clothes, as those with recovered uniforms were resized. The Anzac spirit prevailed as the Royal New Zealand Navy’s bugle player borrowed a cornet from a member of the Australia Defence Force band to perform The Last Post. Although traditionally played on a bugle, Able musician Orson Paine’s professionalism shone through as he delivered a poignant Last Post on the borrowed instrument. Bowyer commended Paine’s musical capabilities, emphasizing his ability to excel regardless of the circumstances.
