Woosh Marks Four Years of Success
Woosh Marks Fourth Anniversary with Sustainable Diaper Innovations
Woosh, a Belgian company specializing in diaper waste reduction, is commemorating its fourth anniversary by highlighting significant achievements in sustainable waste management. Since its inception, Woosh has established partnerships with over 1,100 childcare centers across 20 locations, including Ghent, Bruges, and Mechelen. These collaborations facilitate the collection and recycling of used diapers, a pressing environmental concern, as the initiative prevents an estimated 15 million diapers from entering landfills each year.
Most recently, Woosh expanded its operational capabilities by opening its sixth hub in Merelbeke, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of its supply chain. This new facility will serve an additional 275 childcare centers located in East and West Flanders. By optimizing delivery routes and streamlining logistics in collaboration with the logistics company BDSL, Woosh aims to significantly reduce its CO₂ emissions, contributing further to its sustainability goals.
“While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, we’re also looking ahead,” the company stated. “Our ambition is very clear: to make sustainable, recyclable diapers the new standard in every childcare center and household. Through innovative solutions and strong partnerships, we’re building a circular economy where diaper waste becomes a thing of the past.” This commitment to innovation is evident in Woosh’s recent product launch.
In May 2023, Woosh introduced its own line of recyclable diapers, designed with both sustainability and functionality in mind. These new diapers incorporate recycled materials and are engineered to simplify the lives of professional caregivers in daycare settings. Woosh aims to establish its own dedicated recycling and research and development center in Bruges, underscoring its goal of creating a fully circular diaper economy.
To further enhance the recyclability of its products, Woosh has strategically chosen materials that are conducive to effective recycling. The company primarily utilizes recyclable plastics such as polypropylene and polyethylene, intentionally avoiding substances like cotton, PLA, and PET, which could disrupt the recycling process.
Since 2021, Woosh has partnered with Ontex, a prominent Belgian diaper manufacturer, to bolster its diaper collection and recycling initiatives. This collaboration has resulted in the development of the recycled Woosh diaper, which features 100% recycled plastic in both its packaging and waterproof inner layer, a significant step toward reducing environmental impact.
As Woosh continues to pioneer innovative recycling solutions within the diaper industry, its efforts stand as a model for other companies seeking to address similar environmental challenges. By promoting a circular economy and prioritizing sustainability, Woosh is positioning itself at the forefront of the movement towards eco-friendly practices in childcare and beyond.
