‘Winning Plays Announced at Palm Springs Youth Playwrights Festival’

The Palm Springs Young Playwrights Festival (PSYPF) recently announced the selection of three winning plays for its Sixth Annual Festival. PSYPF aims to promote and encourage creative writing in the theatrical form among elementary, middle, and high school students in Riverside County. This year, the festival received a record 42 submissions, with each play reviewed by a special committee to determine the winners.

The three winning playwrights will have the opportunity to work with mentor Jack Kenny, a Broadway actor, TV executive producer/writer, and playwright, to enhance their playwriting skills. The plays will be performed at the festival by professional actors at The Palm Springs Cultural Center on June 9, 2024, at 12 PM. The event will be free to the public, with reservations available through their website.

The winning plays for 2024 include “IN MY DREAMS” by Erik Evans from Palm Middle School, “SECOND CHANCES (A GAME SHOW)” by Abigail Alldredge from Ramona High School, and “REDO” by Anthony Banuelos from Valley View High School. Each play will be directed by seasoned professionals.

David Youse, the Executive Director of the Festival, expressed excitement about the quality of submissions this year and looks forward to working with the winners. The festival has partnered with The Riverside County Office of Education to expand its outreach and provide real-world experience to student playwrights.
