Weekend Earth Day cleanup events in the Dayton area

The Miami Valley is gearing up for a series of events to celebrate Earth Day and the Living City Project in 2024. From cleanups to workshops, there is something for everyone to get involved in and help preserve the environment.

One of the notable events is the MetroParks cleanup happening across the 16 MetroParks in Montgomery County. Volunteers will be participating in dozens of projects to honor the Dayton-area parks on Saturday, April 20.

TreeFest 2024 is also returning for its 17th anniversary. Volunteers will gather at the Habitat Environmental Center and Southdale Woods in Kettering to clean up the park, plant trees, meet firefighters, and more. There will even be a tree dedication during the event.

The 2024 Living City Project Citywide Cleanup, one of the largest annual city cleanups in Dayton, will be holding events all over the city, with an afterparty at the Dayton Dream Center and the Revival Center Ministries.

The Wright Memorial Public Library will be hosting Earth Day events in their community room, including a family event with crafts and activities for children, as well as a workshop on preserving the environment.

Barnes and Noble in Beavercreek will be holding a special Earth Day storytime event featuring the book “Here we are” by Oliver Jeffers.

The Historic Inner East District in Dayton will be hosting a celebration with various free family activities focused on helping the environment.

Yellow Springs will be holding their annual Earth Day and Community Habitat Celebration on Dayton Street, featuring booths of local environmental organizations, recycling information, nature-themed kids activities, food trucks, and live music.

Dayton Brick Shop will be celebrating Earth Day by allowing visitors to build a Lego replica of Wall-E from the film. These kits are available for purchase in-store only.

Lastly, the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park in Hamilton will be hosting Art and Earth Day 2024, with tours, workshops, a “Possum Scavenger Hunt,” and an adult workshop for visitors to enjoy.

There are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved and make a positive impact on the environment in the Miami Valley this Earth Day season.
