‘Videoconference between Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and COP26 chairman’

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, recently engaged in a video conference with Sir Alok Kumar Sharma, a member of the House of Commons of the UK and Chairman of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). This meeting highlighted the growing collaboration between Azerbaijan and the UK in commerce, economics, energy, and non-oil sectors.

During the conference, Minister Jabbarov discussed Azerbaijan’s energy transition, efforts to reduce gas emissions, renewable energy initiatives, and plans to export green energy to Europe. They also talked about the country’s preparations for hosting the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), underscoring the potential for Azerbaijan and the UK to work together on renewable energy and climate change mitigation. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of learning from the UK’s experience in hosting COP events.

Sir Alok Kumar Sharma praised the strong bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the UK, emphasizing the countries’ efficient relationship. He shared insights from his experience chairing the COP and emphasized the need for financial support for COP29.

The discussion focused on further collaboration in energy transformation and potential cooperative activities at COP29. It was announced in Dubai on December 11, 2023 that COP29 will be held in Azerbaijan, allowing the country to host the event in November and further showcase its commitment to addressing climate change.
