‘Uptown Tower Achieves Success at CTBUH 2024 Awards’

DMCC’s Uptown Tower Clinches Top Honors at CTBUH 2024 Awards

Belgian construction giant Besix proudly announced that DMCC’s Uptown Tower has emerged victorious at this year’s Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Awards of Excellence. The prestigious accolade recognizes the tower for establishing new benchmarks in smart and sustainable urban planning.

Uptown Tower, a striking addition to Dubai’s iconic skyline, mirrors DMCC’s strategic vision to uplift the architectural landscape of Dubai and redefine standards in smart, sustainable urban planning.

For Besix, the tower represents a significant stride in revolutionizing the construction industry by marrying aesthetic appeal with environmental consciousness.

The outstanding achievements of the DMCC tower encompassed accolades for Best Tall Building by Height (300m and above), Best Tall Building by Region (Middle East & Africa), and Excellence in Construction.

During the CTBUH Awards ceremony, Uptown Tower was lauded for its cutting-edge features and innovative construction technologies, as well as its sustainability initiatives and emphasis on design efficiency and safety.

Equipped with 27 elevators, including the region’s first-ever Schindler 7000 double-deck elevator, and a groundbreaking robotic elevator installation system, the tower exemplifies Besix’s dedication to environmental stewardship, featuring the world’s largest solar power installation on a construction site and aspiring for LEED Gold certification.

Besix highlighted the successful integration of advanced digital tools like IoT, ProperGate, and Sablono, which bolstered efficiency and safety throughout the construction phase, particularly amidst challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tower’s water-saving mechanisms aim to promote responsible resource utilization, while its segmentation into residential, commercial, and hospitality zones optimizes energy efficiency.

Maintaining a robust safety record throughout the project’s duration, Besix emphasized its meticulous safety protocols and unwavering commitment to workforce well-being. At its peak, the project engaged 3,300 workers daily, showcasing efficient management and coordination.

The project’s monumental scale involved installing 8,542 glass panels, utilizing approximately 140,000 cu m of concrete delivered by over 23,000 concrete trucks, and incorporating 30,000 tonnes of steel for reinforcement, underscoring the project’s complexity and substantial operations.

Jean-Pol Bouharmont, Managing Director of Besix Middle East, acknowledged the pivotal role of the partnership with DMCC in realizing the challenging project and emphasized that the CTBUH Awards not only applauded the architectural and engineering prowess of the tower but also underscored the collective pursuit of excellence.

Wassim Hijazi, Senior Project Manager, attributed the success of Uptown Tower at the CTBUH Awards of Excellence to the exceptional skills and synergistic collaboration demonstrated by the team from Besix, DMCC, and their representatives.

The CTBUH Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in London in September.
