New Year’s Festivities for Families: “Countdown to Noon” Events in Northumberland and Bloomsburg

As the new year approaches, communities in The Valley are preparing to welcome 2025 with two festive family-oriented events that aim to provide a safe and entertaining environment for children and their families. The “Countdown to Noon” celebrations will be held in Northumberland and Bloomsburg, allowing families to start the New Year’s celebration early.

In Northumberland, the Priestley-Forsyth Memorial Library, in collaboration with King Street Park, will host the Countdown to Noon event on December 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is designed to engage young children with a variety of interactive activities including preschool story-times, craft stations, and special appearances by costumed characters that are sure to delight attendees.

A highlight of the Northumberland celebration will be the dramatic atom drop, facilitated by the Northumberland Fire Department. Utilizing their ladder truck, firefighters will conduct a countdown to noon under the watchful eye of an electronic display near the park gazebo. In addition to the festivities, various snacks will be available for purchase, making it a convenient outing for families. Importantly, admission to this event is free, ensuring accessibility for all community members.

In a parallel celebration, the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum will host its Seventh Annual Countdown to Noon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event encourages families to explore New Year-themed crafts and games, culminating in a special noon countdown. The activities are designed to be both engaging and educational, aligning with the museum’s mission to foster learning through play. Admission to the event is included with museum entry, and the facility will close at 1:30 p.m. following the festivities.

Both events are designed to provide families with a festive and safe environment to ring in the New Year. They reflect a growing trend of community-oriented celebrations that focus on inclusivity, making it possible for families of various backgrounds to participate in the festivities. As parents seek safe, family-friendly activities during the holiday season, the Countdown to Noon events in The Valley offer an excellent opportunity to celebrate together while creating lasting memories.

Families interested in participating in these events are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy all the planned activities and make the most of the day.
