Title: Pricey Brice Marden Painting Expected to Achieve Record Sale at Auction

Renowned artist Brice Marden’s diptych “Event” is set to make waves in the art world as it heads to auction at Christie’s New York 21st century evening sale in May. The painting, created between 2004 and 2007, is expected to shatter Marden’s previous record with an estimated price of million to million.

Marden, who passed away last year at the age of 84, currently holds the record for the highest auction price for his artwork with “Complements” selling for .9 million at Christie’s in 2020.

“Event” is part of Marden’s acclaimed series “The Propitious Garden of Plane Image,” featuring intricate, squiggled forms that are characteristic of the artist’s abstract style. Two other works from the series are already in the collections of major museums, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou.

Christie’s deputy chairman of post-war and contemporary art, Sara Friedlander, described “Event” as the finest example of Marden’s work to ever come to auction, highlighting the artist’s dedication to abstraction and meticulous attention to detail in every brushstroke.

Prior to the auction, “Event” will make its public debut at the 17th edition of Art Dubai. The piece, completed in 2007, has been held in a private collection for the past 17 years, adding to its allure and significance in the art world.
