Tinariwen Reveals Tour Dates for Australia and New Zealand

Desert-blues pioneers, Tinariwen, have announced an eight-date tour of New Zealand and Australia in May/June of this year. The tour will kick off in New Zealand before crossing the Tasman to cover various cities in Australia, including Hobart, Fremantle, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Tinariwen will also be performing at the Vivid Festival in Sydney and Rising Festival in Melbourne during their tour.

Tinariwen is a collective of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara region of northern Mali. Founded in 1979 by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, the band, along with bandmates Alhassane Ag Touhami and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni, has been actively performing and touring. With 11 studio albums and over 1100 international appearances, Tinariwen continues to lead the way in spreading desert rock music globally.

From exiled rebels to international music icons, Tinariwen is known for their distinctive fusion of traditional desert blues, rock, and world rhythms. The band has been honored with one Grammy Award and two nominations, with the latest nomination in 2020. Collaborations with artists such as Thom Yorke, Robert Plant, Jack White, and Warren Ellis have further solidified their status in the music industry.

The upcoming 2024 tour will be Tinariwen’s first since the release of their ninth studio album, “Amatssou (Beyond The Fear),” which delves into the connections between desert blues and other music genres from around the world.
