The Judges for the 2024 Academy Awards Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia Competition Have Been Revealed

Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA) 2024, an Academy Awards® accredited and one of the largest international short film festivals in Asia originating in Japan, has unveiled the official jury members for the festival. These distinguished individuals will judge the best short films in various categories and sections, with nominees potentially moving on to the Academy Awards® in the following year.

The festival directors, programmers, filmmakers, actors, and cultural figures will provide unique perspectives in judging this year’s short films. Here are the esteemed judges for the different competition categories:

– Live Action Competition/International Category Judges: 33 nominated films out of 2104 submissions from 94 countries and regions.
– Non-Fiction Competition Judges: 15 nominated films out of 313 submissions from 55 countries and regions, including Hiromi Nagasaku, Ema Ryan Yamazaki, and Tim Redford.
– Live Action Competition/Asia International Category Judges: 25 nominated films out of 722 submissions from 36 countries and regions.
– Live Action Competition/Japan Category Judges: 21 nominated films out of 241 submissions, with judges such as Sharon Badal, Hiroshi Fujioka, and Katsuhide Motoki.
– Animation Competition Judges: 23 nominated films out of 464 submissions from 57 countries and regions, with Tom Kawada, ShiShi Yamazaki, and Tomoyuki Sugiyama on the panel.

The winners in the International, Asia International, and Japan categories of the Live Action Competition, as well as the Best Animation and Best Non-Fiction categories, will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony scheduled for Monday, June 17, 2024. The prestigious George Lucas Award (Grand Prix) will be presented by Cunard, including an additional prize of a cruise on the Queen Elizabeth.
