‘Submissions now open for the 19th edition of the Book Award’

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA), hosted by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), is now open for submissions for its 19th edition until September 1, 2024. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding literary works across 10 categories, including Literature, Translation, Contribution to the Development of Nations, and more.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC and Secretary-General of the SZBA, expressed pride in the award’s success over the past 18 editions, highlighting its impact on the cultural scene. He emphasized the award’s role in promoting writing and translation efforts and fostering cultural exchange between nations.

To be considered for the award, submissions must meet certain criteria. Authors can only submit one work per category, and books must not have previously received a major international or Arab prize. Each submitted work should have an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) for verification purposes.

Authors and publishing houses are encouraged to submit their works within the last two years, except for entries in the Editing of Arabic Manuscripts category, which can be in languages other than Arabic. Nominees for the Cultural Personality of the Year award must be nominated by academic or cultural institutions, while nominees for other categories can personally fill out nomination forms on the SZBA website.

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award continues to celebrate literary excellence and cultural diversity, serving as a platform to honor remarkable authors and their contributions to the world of literature. Submissions are now open, and the literary community eagerly awaits the announcement of the winners for the 19th edition of this esteemed award.
