Strengthened partnership between UAE and ASEAN

Minister of State, Ahmed Al Sayegh, held a meeting with the Committee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Abu Dhabi to strengthen the strategic partnership between the UAE and ASEAN. This meeting comes after the UAE joined ASEAN in 2022 as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner and adopted an action plan for 2024–2028.

The committee meeting, presided over by Malaysia’s ambassador to the UAE, discussed various collaborative projects and initiatives within the Sectoral Dialogue Partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Southeast Asia. These projects included suggested collaborations intended to promote cooperation, in coordination with the ASEAN Secretariat.

During the meeting, current ASEAN initiatives were also reviewed, emphasizing the importance of the UAE’s involvement in enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, economics, climate change, and renewable energy. Minister Al Sayegh expressed gratitude to ASEAN for their efforts in establishing the UAE’s role as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner, in alignment with the UAE-ASEAN action plan for 2024–2028.

The ASEAN Ambassadors in the UAE commended the meeting and highlighted the Committee’s crucial role in fostering collaboration between the two sides. It was agreed that the ASEAN Committee would convene twice a year in Abu Dhabi to monitor shared objectives and progress in various areas by the UAE and ASEAN.

The partnership between the UAE and ASEAN continues to grow stronger, emphasizing mutual cooperation and shared objectives in various sectors.
