Scotland reopens Climate Engagement Fund

Scotland’s Climate Engagement Fund has reopened for applications and will accept submissions until Tuesday, May 7, 2024. This fund aims to support organizations across Scotland, including community, cultural, and education groups, in engaging people to address the climate emergency.

With a total funding of £250,000, the fund will support various activities such as climate festivals, skills workshops, art exhibitions, and youth development programs. These events and programs are designed to enhance people’s understanding of climate change and encourage climate action, as stated by the Scottish government.

Over the years, the fund has already supported eight projects with a total funding of £550,000. One of the notable projects is the Building Futures Galloway initiative, which has empowered individuals in the region with the skills to enhance the energy efficiency of historic buildings and implement sustainable techniques in their own homes.

Màiri McAllan, the Net Zero Secretary, reiterated Scotland’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2045 and emphasized the importance of fostering understanding about the climate emergency and empowering individuals and communities to take action through initiatives like the Climate Engagement Fund.

Graeme Davies, Chair of the Board of Building Futures Galloway, praised the fund for its past support in addressing energy efficiency issues in historic homes and buildings. He highlighted a successful film project involving young people from Whithorn Primary School, where students engaged with young trainees and heritage restoration projects, ultimately producing a film to educate others about their experiences.

By supporting grassroots initiatives, the Climate Engagement Fund plays a crucial role in enabling individuals and communities to directly contribute to the global effort of tackling climate change.
