Scientific Research among Health Professions Students in the United Arab Emirates: Confidence, Attitude, and Practice

Health profession students in the United Arab Emirates demonstrated room for improvement in confidence, attitude, and practice of scientific research, according to a recent study. The research assessed 522 undergraduate students from various specialties using an online questionnaire distributed through social media platforms. The study found that students exhibited low confidence, negative attitudes, and limited practice in scientific research.

Regression analysis revealed that students without prior research experience had lower confidence and practice levels compared to those with research experience. Additionally, students who faced difficulties in differentiating between literature resources showed lower confidence and practice levels. Moreover, individuals who had not been taught research methods during their undergraduate studies were less likely to demonstrate high practice levels.

The study highlighted the need for educational programs focusing on scientific research practices to be incorporated into the curricula of medical colleges in the UAE. Enhancing students’ confidence and practice in scientific research is essential for their future success in the field. By providing tailored training and educational courses, academic institutions can help students improve their research skills and become proficient in conducting scientific research.

In conclusion, the study emphasized the importance of addressing the limitations in confidence, attitude, and practice of scientific research among health profession students in the UAE. By implementing educational programs and training courses, students can be better equipped to engage in research activities and contribute meaningfully to the field of healthcare.
