Rhiannon Giddens Performs Energetic Version of ‘Louisiana Man’ on Talk Show

Rhiannon Giddens recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform her bluesy, Cajun-infused song “You Louisiana Man” from her latest solo album, “You’re the One.” The lively performance featured Giddens on vocals and banjo, backed by her live band.

Giddens’ album, “You’re the One,” released last August, is her first solo effort in six years and consists entirely of original songs. Produced by Jack Splash, the album includes musical contributions from Francesco Turrisi, Dirk Powell, Jason Sypher, and Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu. Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell is also featured on a track called “Yet to Be.”

Describing her album, Giddens stated, “I hope that people just hear American music – blues, jazz, Cajun, country, gospel, and rock. It’s all there. They’re fun songs, and I wanted them to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience who may not be familiar with my work.”

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Giddens was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in Music last year for the opera “Omar,” which she co-wrote with Michael Abels. She is also a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation’s “Genius Grant.” Giddens has also contributed to a tribute album honoring songwriter and novelist Alice Randall.

Currently on tour in support of her album, Giddens is scheduled to perform at various festivals this spring and summer, including the New Orleans Heritage & Jazz Festival and the Newport Folk Festival. Rolling Stone recently documented her concert at New York’s Beacon Theatre.
