‘Return of Award-Winning Children’s Puppet Festival Announced by Little Angel Theatre’
Little Angel Theatre is gearing up for the second edition of its Children’s Puppet Festival after a successful debut in 2023. The festival, which recently received an Offie Award, celebrates a variety of puppetry styles from acclaimed companies catering to different age groups.
Some festival highlights include the London premieres of ‘The Little Prince’ by Lyngo Theatre Company and ‘Minny Stynker’ by Soap Soup Theatre, introducing innovative techniques like projection mapping and augmented reality. Award-winning artist Sam Wilde’s Cardboard Adventures will present ‘Boxville’, an interactive adventure for audiences to partake in.
Other standout productions will utilize Little Angel’s Studio space creatively, such as ‘Claytime’ and ‘Under the Little Red Moon’ by English Touring Opera. The festival also aims to raise awareness for endangered crafts like marionette puppetry, showcasing the work of String Theatre’s ‘Lottie, The Travelling Doll’.
Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of puppetry styles, blending magic, mime, classic stories, and interactive experiences. Workshops like Georgia Hill’s ‘Monster Circus’ offer hands-on learning opportunities for all ages.
In addition to the festival, Little Angel Theatre will host family and adult activities throughout August, including Puppet Playcations, craft workshops, puppet making courses, puppetry introduction sessions, and the Open House Festival in September.
The festival’s curator, Oliver Hymans, expressed excitement over the lineup, emphasizing the importance of providing a platform for puppetry and theatre for young audiences to thrive. Artistic Director Samantha Lane and Executive Director Peta Swindall are equally enthusiastic about the festival’s return, promising a curated program that caters to a wide range of audiences.
