‘Plans in Progress for Demolition of Former Southport Theatre’

Demolition preparations for the highly anticipated Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport are set to begin as Sefton Council has appointed the DSM Group to carry out the demolition of the former Southport Theatre and Convention Centre. The preparations are scheduled to take place on site in the coming days, marking a significant milestone in the project.

Prior to the demolition works, preparatory works have already been completed by contractors Dowhigh, including the creation of a bird raft for wildlife and the diversion of underground pipework away from the site. Sefton Council has also secured ASM Global to manage the £73 million venue on the promenade, adding to ASM Global’s extensive portfolio of over 350 venues worldwide.

Andrew Fletcher, Managing Director of the DSM Group, expressed enthusiasm in working closely with residents and businesses to minimize disruptions during the demolition process. He emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional solutions and exceeding expectations in the project.

Phil Porter, Chief Executive of Sefton Council, highlighted the economic benefits of the Marine Lake Events Centre, expecting it to attract half a million visitors annually and generate an £18 million boost for the local economy. The project aims to transform Southport and enhance the area’s appeal to visitors and businesses.

With preparations underway, Maria Bertelli, Strategic Business Development Director at ASM Global, expressed excitement about the progress made on site and the realization of the vision for the transformative project. Salvaged culturally important items from the former theatre building, such as historic projectors, will be preserved and displayed in the new Marine Lake Events Centre.

Sefton Council has initiated a procurement process to select a main contractor for the construction of the new venue, with further updates on this part of the project expected in the future. The development of the Marine Lake Events Centre signifies a significant step forward in Southport’s growth and attractiveness as a destination for events and entertainment.
