Partnership Formed to Build Telecommunication Satellites for UAE

Airbus has secured a new contract from Yahsat, a leading satellite service provider based in the UAE, to develop geostationary telecommunications satellites. The two satellites, named Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5, will be designed and constructed by Airbus Defence and Space unit, including ground control components.

With a projected lifespan of 15 years, Al Yah 4 is set to launch in 2027, followed by Al Yah 5 in 2028. These advanced satellites will be used to provide secure governmental communications across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia. They are expected to replace the existing Al Yah 1 and Al Yah 2 satellites, which were launched in 2011 and 2012, respectively, and were based on an earlier version of the Airbus-built Eurostar platform.

The partnership between Airbus and Yahsat aims to enhance satellite communications capabilities in key regions and ensure reliable connectivity for various services. This latest development underscores Airbus’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement in the field of satellite telecommunications.
