‘Oman to implement smart meters in August, introduces fixed payment plans’

Nama has announced a new service called ‘Fixed,’ which allows subscribers to set a specific budget for their electricity bills each month. This service offers predictability and stability by calculating a predetermined amount based on the average consumption of the last 12 months. The goal is to prevent disconnections due to unpaid bills, regardless of actual usage. Subscribing to the ‘Fixed’ service is free and can be done through the Nama website or app.

Engineer Youssef Al Mahrouqi of Nama Supply Company highlighted the range of services that will come with the smart meter project, such as prepaid bills, deferred payment, and instant billing. The smart meter project is expected to benefit around 1.5 million subscribers initially, with a projected annual increase of 3 percent. This initiative aligns with Oman’s vision for innovation and digitalization.

In preparation for the summer season, Nama has deployed 240 emergency and maintenance teams across different governorates in Oman. These teams are equipped with the necessary electrical equipment for maintenance and emergencies. The company also emphasized its commitment to Omanization, with 60 percent of the teams consisting of young and qualified Omani professionals.
