‘New Sculpture Installation Unveiled in Poydras Corridor: Polyhedra’
The city of New Orleans is seeing a flourishing public art scene with the recent installation of “Poydras Corridor Polyhedra,” a towering sculpture by artist Matt Scobey. This impressive piece, made of aluminum, steel, and cast acrylic, is the tallest sculpture along the Poydras Corridor today.
The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition (PCSE), presented by The Helis Foundation, is a leading rotating public sculpture exhibition in the South, showcasing over 40 sculptures by local, regional, and international artists. The Helis Foundation is the exhibition’s sole funder, with 13 sculptures currently on display.
“Poydras Corridor Polyhedra” is crafted from welded aluminum frames and cast acrylic, inspired by polyhedra shapes representing elements like earth, air, fire, water, and the universe. Artist Matt Scobey, based in Marfa, Texas, is known for his stacked sculptural work exploring material, transmission, site, and scale.
Scobey expressed gratitude for the collaboration with The Helis Foundation, Ogden Museum, and Denali Art Solutions on this project, emphasizing the support and assistance he received. PCSE is a joint effort between The Helis Foundation, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways to bring captivating sculptures to residents and visitors.
The exhibition will continue to expand this year with new additions from prominent local artists like George Dunbar.
