‘New Liquid Scanners at City Airport Reduce Queue Times by 10 Years’

London City Airport’s ‘liquid in’ security scanners have been a game-changer, cutting queue lengths in half during their first year of operation, according to new figures. Introduced a year ago, these scanners allow passengers to carry liquids of up to two litres in their carry-on bags and keep both bottles and laptops in their bags as they pass through security.

The airport, known for its business travelers, has shifted its focus to holiday destinations following the slower post-pandemic return of business travel. With more than half of its passengers now traveling for leisure, London City Airport has resumed summer flights to popular vacation spots like the Greek islands of Mykonos and Skiathos.

Alison FitzGerald, interim co-CEO and Chief Operating Officer at London City Airport, expressed delight with the results of the CT scanners rollout, emphasizing the airport’s commitment to delivering a quick and efficient experience for travelers. As the busy summer holiday season approaches, the airport aims to provide passengers with seamless connections from London to various exciting destinations.

Although the scanners are set to be deployed nationwide, their rollout has faced repeated delays. The success of these ‘liquid in’ security scanners at London City Airport highlights the importance of innovation in enhancing the travel experience for passengers.
