‘New Lab in Dubai and Expanded Verification Services offered by GIA’

GIA Opens New Lab in Dubai’s DMCC, Introduces Report Confirmation Service

Global Gemological Institute (GIA) has officially opened its first laboratory in Dubai, located at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), on Feb. 19. The newly established GIA Laboratory DMCC will specifically cater to clients operating within Dubai’s free trade zones and will not accept submissions from other locations in the city. However, the lab plans to extend its services to clients from other countries as well. The services offered in Dubai will focus on D-to-Z diamonds weighing up to 3.99 carats.

In addition to the lab opening, GIA has also launched its Report Confirmation Service, which was first introduced at its New York City lab in January. This service is now available at all GIA laboratory locations. The service aims to verify that a GIA-graded diamond, with or without inscription, corresponds accurately with its GIA report. For a limited time, this service will be provided at no extra cost.

Clients have the option to submit their diamonds through walk-in or courier services, with walk-in clients being prioritized for quicker service. While it is preferred for the original GIA report or a facsimile to accompany the submitted diamond, it is not mandatory. GIA estimates varying wait times, with 15 minutes for a single loose diamond, one hour for two to five stones, and 24 hours for larger quantities. Mounted diamonds can also be submitted for confirmation, although this process may take longer.
