‘New Crown Prince Appointed by Emir of Kuwait’

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has officially appointed Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince of Kuwait, as reported by Kuwait State Television. Born in 1953, Sheikh Sabah previously held the position of prime minister from 2019 to 2022. He is a graduate of Kuwait University with a degree in political science and has an extensive diplomatic background, having served as Kuwait’s permanent representative to the United Nations, ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and foreign minister.

Sheikh Mishal ascended to the role of Kuwait’s 17th ruler on December 16, 2023, following the passing of his half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. As per the Kuwaiti constitution, Sheikh Mishal is required to appoint a new crown prince within a year.

This change in leadership comes at a crucial time for Kuwait, as Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah assumes his new role as Crown Prince, bringing with him a wealth of experience in diplomacy and governance.
