Cheltenham Music Festival Welcomes Jack Bazalgette as New Artistic Director

The Cheltenham Music Festival in the UK is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jack Bazalgette as its new Artistic Director. Bazalgette, known for his role as co-founder of the music production company “through the noise,” will bring his extensive experience in classical music to the festival for an initial term of three years, starting with the 2025 program, marking the event’s eightieth year.

Apart from his work with “through the noise,” Bazalgette is also a conductor, singer, and animator. He has served as Associate Director of Tiffin Boys’ Choir, chorusmaster of the Prague Symphony Orchestra, conductor of the Malcolm Street Orchestra, and Senior Conductor of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra.

The upcoming 2024 Cheltenham Festival will feature renowned artists such as Claire Hammond, Roderick Williams, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Expressing his excitement for the new role, Bazalgette stated, “Cheltenham Music Festival has been at the heart of the UK’s classical music scene for nearly 80 years. It’s an honor to be part of shaping its vibrant future.” He emphasized the festival’s history of commissioning new works and showcasing talented musicians, as well as its vital work with young people and schools in promoting classical music.

Co-CEO of the Cheltenham Festivals charity, Ian George, shared his enthusiasm for Bazalgette’s appointment, highlighting the director’s innovative approach to expanding classical music audiences while maintaining artistic integrity. George expressed anticipation for the upcoming summer festival and future events under Bazalgette’s leadership, aiming to engage both returning and new audiences in the celebration of classical music.
