‘New acquisition for Emirates Flight Catering: Bustanica indoor vertical farm’

Emirates Flight Catering Acquires Emirates Bustanica, World’s Largest Indoor Vertical Farm

Emirates Flight Catering has recently acquired Emirates Bustanica, formerly known as Emirates Crop One, and its consumer brand Bustanica, establishing the company as the world’s largest indoor vertical farm. This strategic move marks Emirates Flight Catering’s commitment to enhancing food and water security through agricultural ventures, solidifying Emirates Bustanica as a fully UAE-owned entity.

Located near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, Bustanica’s 330,000-square-foot facility has the capacity to produce over one million kilograms of leafy greens annually, equivalent to three tonnes per day. Utilizing innovative technology, the farm operates with 95 percent less water usage compared to conventional agriculture methods, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly resource.

The fresh produce from Bustanica is widely available across major retailers in the UAE under the Bustanica brand, including Spinney’s, Waitrose, Carrefour, and Choithrams. Additionally, passengers traveling on Emirates and other airlines can enjoy the farm-fresh produce in their salads and meals during their flights.

With a focus on producing clean, pesticide-free, and nutrient-rich greens such as lettuce, spinach, parsley, and kale, Bustanica employs cutting-edge technologies like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other patented processes. The farm is operated by a team of experts including agronomists, engineers, horticulturists, and plant scientists, ensuring the high quality and sustainability of its produce.

Emirates Bustanica’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility was underscored by its designation as a preferred produce supplier for COP28. This recognition highlights the farm’s dedication to promoting eco-friendly practices and supporting a more sustainable food supply chain.
