‘nendo Creates Unique Cover for Latest DSCENE Issue’

DSCENE Magazine presents an exclusive cover designed by the renowned design studio nendo for their design issue themed “Line, Form, Space.” Under the visionary leadership of founder Oki Sato, nendo has captured the essence of design’s future. Reflecting on the cover, Oki Sato shares, “For the theme “Line, Form, Space,” we used the ‘single line sketch,’ which is the first step in the design process and plays the most important role, to express the fundamental value elements that compose design: form, function, space, surprise, and innovation.”

Nendo, founded by Oki Sato, seamlessly blends Japanese minimalism with a global perspective, pushing the boundaries of creativity and functionality. Their work in architecture, interior design, furniture, and product design reflects a philosophy of subtraction, simplicity, and elegance.

In an exclusive interview with DSCENE’s editor Katarina Doric, Oki Sato shares the philosophy and journey of nendo. He recalls the transformative trip to the Salone del Mobile in 2002, which inspired the creation of nendo. Oki Sato explains that nendo’s ethos is about flexibility and breaking boundaries in design rather than repeating methodologies.

Nendo believes that the future of design is about creating emotional connections and new experiences. Oki Sato emphasizes the importance of including emotional elements such as a sense of familiarity or joy in design, in addition to functionality.
