“Must-See Bank Holiday Events: Bohemia’s Female Gardeners and Belgravia’s Flower Festival”

Londoners have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of gardening this week with two exciting events on the horizon.

An exhibition at the Garden Museum titled “Gardening Bohemia” offers a glimpse into the lives of notable women gardeners from Bohemia. The showcase features writer Virginia Woolf, artist Vanessa Bell, photographer Lady Ottoline Morrell, and garden designer Vita Sackville-West, showcasing paintings, photographs, clothes, and letters that highlight the significance of gardens as places of solace, work, leisure, and refuge for artists of that era. The exhibition also delves into the personal lives of these women, shedding light on the relationship between lovers Sackville-West and Woolf.

Another highlight this week is the annual “Belgravia in Bloom” festival, now in its ninth year. Over 60 businesses are participating in the event, decorating their spaces with floral displays based on the theme of “floral fun and games.” One of the standout displays is “Cards — A Garden of Suits” outside Jo Loves on Elizabeth Street, featuring a floral card deck composed of larkspur, lupins, and hydrangeas, creating a vibrant and playful tapestry that evokes the excitement of a card game.

Both “Gardening Bohemia” and “Belgravia in Bloom” offer Londoners the opportunity to celebrate the beauty of gardens and floral displays. “Gardening Bohemia” will run at the Garden Museum until September 29, 2024, with admission priced at £14, while “Belgravia in Bloom” is free to visit until May 27, featuring captivating displays on various streets in Westminster.
