May 15 Declared a Holiday in Quezon Town

Malacañang has officially declared May 15 as a special non-working day in Sariaya town, Quezon province to celebrate the farmer’s feast and “Agawan Festival.” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued Proclamation No. 537 on May 6, allowing the people of Sariaya to partake in the festivities.

Sariaya Mayor Marcelo Gayeta shared the proclamation on his Facebook page, confirming the holiday for the town. The Agawan Festival is known for its tradition of hanging bamboo branches filled with bread, cookies, and farm products that are grabbed by excited townsfolk during the procession of San Isidro de Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.

Residents along the procession route adorn their homes and participate in the celebration by throwing food, fruits, and money to the participants. In addition to the Agawan Festival, Quezon province will also host three other festivals on May 15, including the “Pahiyas” in Lucban town, the “Araña’t Baluarte” festival in Gumaca, and the “Mayohan” in Tayabas City, all in honor of San Isidro. This holiday serves as an opportunity for locals to join in the cultural festivities and celebrate the rich traditions of Quezon province.
