Mary Mitsos, President & CEO, to transition out ahead of the next phase of National Forest Foundation growth

The National Forest Foundation (NFF) has announced that its President and CEO, Mary Mitsos, will be stepping down as the organization prepares for its next phase of growth. Mitsos has been leading the NFF for the past seven years, during which time the organization has significantly increased its on-the-ground efforts to protect and nurture public lands.

Rob Leary, Chairman of the NFF Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for Mitsos’ leadership and dedication to the organization. He emphasized the impact she has had on the NFF, its staff, partners, and the communities it serves. Randy Moore, Chief of the United States Forest Service, also praised Mitsos for her trailblazing career and her unwavering love for public lands.

With 193 million acres of National Forests and Grasslands in the United States playing a crucial role in various aspects of our lives, including water protection, carbon absorption, mental health, and recreation, the NFF and the USFS are committed to expanding their influence and impact. Together, they aim to address the challenges posed by climate change and encourage American citizens and businesses to support the health of our natural resources and our shared love of the outdoors.

As the NFF prepares for this new chapter, the organization remains focused on its mission to protect and preserve the precious national assets represented by our forest system. Through collaboration with the USFS and various stakeholders, the NFF will continue its efforts to ensure the health and sustainability of our forests for future generations.
