‘Marcia Griffiths and Guest Performers to Tour in Jamaica with Special Appearance by Patti Labelle’
Renowned Jamaican singer Marcia Griffiths, who recently mesmerized fans with her Marcia Griffiths and Friends show on Mother’s Day, is gearing up for similar performances in Atlanta and the Jamaican capital.
The Atlanta concert is set for August, while the Kingston show is confirmed for November 2, featuring Rhythm And Blues legend Patti LaBelle as a special guest. Griffiths, celebrating her 60th year in the music industry, describes Marcia And Friends as a “live documentary” showcasing her illustrious career spanning from the early 1960s to the present.
At the Miramar Readiness Center event on May 12, fans were treated to classic tunes like Feel Like Jumping, Dreamland, and Electric Boogie performed by Griffiths. The evening was further enriched with guest appearances by artists such as Singer J, Yeshemabeth, Shuga, Freddie McGregor, Ky-Mani Marley, Da’Ville, Cutty Ranks, and Shaggy, who flew in from Dubai.
Following her upcoming performances in the United Kingdom and Europe in July and August, Griffiths is set to headline Marcia And Friends in Kingston this November alongside LaBelle. Reflecting on her musical journey, Griffiths expressed admiration for LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, and Carla Thomas, who served as her inspiration.
Hailing from west Kingston, Marcia Griffiths kickstarted her career at Studio One under the guidance of singer/producer Bob Andy and producer Clement Dodd. She gained global recognition in the 1970s as a member of The I Three, Bob Marley’s harmony group, before achieving mainstream success in the 1980s with Electric Boogie. Griffiths continued to evolve her sound, collaborating with artists like Beres Hammond, Cutty Ranks, and Da’Ville to resonate with a diverse audience in the music industry.
