Major update revealed for Dubai Metro’s Red Line

Starting April 15, Dubai Metro’s Red Line will introduce two direct routes connecting Centrepoint station with UAE Exchange and Expo 2020 stations, eliminating the need for commuters to switch trains at Jabal Ali station.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the Red Line will operate on a Y-junction, a significant change in its operating mechanism. A Y-junction is an international concept where trains will run alternately, providing passengers traveling to either UAE Exchange or Expo 2020 station from Centrepoint station with a seamless journey.

Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operation at the RTA, stated, “Passengers will no longer have to change at Jabal Ali station. Commuters going from Ibn Battuta station to UAE Exchange can now enjoy a direct trip, while those heading to Gardens – Expo 2020 can board a train straight to their destination.”

To assist passengers during the transition, additional staff will be deployed to guide and educate them in the initial weeks. The updated system is expected to reduce station congestion, waiting times, and ultimately enhance the overall passenger experience.

Moreover, this initiative will lead to energy conservation by reducing the number of train kilometers, cutting power consumption during operations, and requiring fewer trains to operate under the new schedule.

This strategic enhancement aligns with RTA’s dedication to improving trip schedules, punctuality, and operational efficiency while enhancing the journey experience for public transport users.
