‘Los Angeles Design Weekend Created by Collaborating Local Designers’

A group of designers in Los Angeles are preparing to launch a furniture-focused design festival called Los Angeles Design Weekend. The event is scheduled to take place from 21 to 23 June in various studios and showrooms across East Los Angeles and Downtown.

The decision to organize this new festival came following the announcement that the Los Angeles Design Festival, which made a comeback last year after a hiatus due to the pandemic, would now operate on a biannual basis. Holland Denvir, a lead organizer of the Los Angeles Design Weekend, expressed that the city was missing a platform to celebrate the independent designers and makers based in Los Angeles.

The festival will be unique in its organization, with activities scheduled by neighborhood to provide participants with a more immersive experience. The chosen neighborhoods for the event include Downtown Los Angeles, Silver Lake, Frog Town, and Atwater. To avoid the notorious traffic in LA, the itinerary has been strategically planned to allow attendees to walk, take public transit, or cycle between the different locations.

Local design studios like HubbaHubba, Terremoto, and Daniel Dooreck have already confirmed their participation in the festival. The aim is to shed light on the burgeoning design scene in the eastern part of the city, which often competes with the more well-known neighborhoods in the west like Hollywood.

Aside from showcasing design work, the festival organizers are planning interactive elements to engage visitors and are collaborating with local design schools to involve the next generation of designers in the celebration. The positive response from the community has been overwhelming, with many creatives coming together to make this event a success.

As the Los Angeles design scene continues to gain attention, with multiple galleries hosting exhibitions and international design fairs expanding to the city, Los Angeles Design Weekend aims to be a significant addition to the growing design calendar. The festival is set to take place in June, offering a platform for designers to showcase their work and engage with a wider audience interested in design and architecture.
