Leader initiates Seachtain na Gaeilge campaign.

The annual celebration of the Irish language, known as ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ (Irish Language Week), kicked off in Mid Ulster with the help of the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Dominic Molloy, and Bronagh Fusco of Conradh na Gaeilge. This national and international Language festival takes place every year throughout Ireland and beyond, offering talks, music, and entertainment for all ages.

The festival aims to encourage everyone to explore the Irish language and learn more about the rich Gaelic heritage. Councillor Dominic Molloy emphasized the significance of Seachtain na Gaeilge as a way for the local community to engage with and celebrate the Irish language. He invited everyone to participate in the various events happening throughout the district.

The launch event saw students and staff from Irish Language Medium schools in the area, along with Community Irish Language Development Officers. Guest speaker Bronagh Fusco shared her positive experiences with the festival, highlighting its importance. The event featured traditional music, song, and dance performances, setting the stage for the upcoming festival.

Events catering to all ages and proficiency levels will take place across the district, starting on March 1st with a launch event in Carn Tóchair, Maghera, and concluding on March 22nd in Dungannon. Augher native Sinéad Nic Cionnaith will launch her debut album of traditional music and song at the closing event.
