Abu Dhabi Ports Introduces Smart Container Initiative for Sustainable Digital Solutions

Abu Dhabi Ports has recently unveiled its Smart Container Initiative, aimed at creating digital solutions to foster a resilient, safe, and eco-friendly mobile environment. The initiative involves the development of a solar-panelled steel and aluminum smart container that incorporates environmentally friendly technologies like in-row cooling, renewable energy, and efficient space allocation. These features are expected to reduce Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by over 20% and cut carbon emissions in half.

The prefabricated containerized data center is designed to run a variety of mission-critical applications, including port and terminal operation systems, visitor passes, and digital customer services. Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, emphasized the importance of the Smart Container Initiative in advancing sustainable eco-friendly digital transformation solutions that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, Head of Digital Cluster and CEO of Maqta Gateway at Abu Dhabi Ports, also highlighted the significance of adding value to port operations while maintaining high safety standards for data. The deployment of a mobile data center is seen as a crucial step in providing agile and scalable smart services to stakeholders and customers while ensuring business continuity.

Abu Dhabi Ports aims to invest in cutting-edge green technology and innovative digital infrastructure to drive economic and technological growth in the region. The initiative reflects a commitment to reimagining traditional business practices and embracing sophisticated alternatives, especially in times of economic challenges.
