“Larry Bird Museum to Hold Ribbon Cutting Ceremony”
Terre Haute, IN – The Larry Bird Museum, a celebration of the Indiana basketball legend, is set to open its doors this Thursday at the Terre Haute Convention Center after facing some delays. The museum, announced by the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board in 2018, was originally planned to open alongside the convention center in April 2022 but was postponed due to pandemic-related construction setbacks.
The museum will showcase exhibits highlighting Bird’s Indiana roots, his impact on Indiana State University athletics, and his influence on the Terre Haute community. To commemorate the grand opening, the city will host Hoops Fest, a street fair on Wabash Avenue between Seventh and Ninth Streets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Local officials and special guests, including Larry Bird himself, will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Following the festivities, the museum will offer private VIP tours and open to the public on Friday.
To visit the museum, guests must reserve a time slot in advance through the newly launched museum website. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the legacy of an Indiana icon in the Larry Bird Museum.
