‘Kamikamica discusses issues with UAE counterpart’

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, met with His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today. The meeting was held in preparation for the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi from 26-29 February 2024.

During the meeting, Hon. Kamikamica congratulated H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi on his Chairmanship of the MC13 and praised the UAE for hosting the global event. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of the conference in addressing global trade challenges and advancing the interests of WTO members.

Discussions focused on the expectations for the MC13 and the need for meaningful outcomes that support inclusive and sustainable development and economic growth. Both leaders highlighted key agenda items such as fisheries subsidies, agriculture, and e-commerce negotiations, reaffirming their dedication to finding solutions to these issues.

In addition to trade matters, Kamikamica and H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi discussed the longstanding relations between Fiji and the UAE. They emphasized the strong friendship and cooperation between the two countries and expressed their commitment to further enhancing bilateral ties.
