‘Juneteenth Celebration events in Ohio scheduled for June 22’

Ohio University is gearing up to host its annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 22, with a day filled with events for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Juneteenth, recognized nationally on June 19, commemorates the country’s second Independence Day.

This year, the Juneteenth Celebration at Ohio University’s Athens Campus will include a Black History Tour of Athens and the Juneteenth Festival. The Black History Tour of Athens will take place from 10 a.m. until noon, starting on the fourth floor of the Baker University Center. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the African American history of the community. To register for the tour, please visit the designated webpage.

The Juneteenth Festival, scheduled from 3-6 p.m. on the College Green, will feature music, vendors offering food and merchandise, and activities for the whole family. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, water, and sunscreen to fully enjoy the festivities. For more information on the Juneteenth Festival, please visit the Juneteenth webpage.

Volunteers are essential to the success of the Juneteenth Celebration, and individuals interested in helping with the activities can sign up on the volunteer webpage.
