‘Japan Contributes EUR 1.96 Million to Support Efforts in Syria’

The SRTF Receives Generous Contribution of Nearly EUR 2 Million from Japan

Amman – Thursday, 4 April 2024 – The Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) is pleased to announce a new generous contribution of approximately EUR 1.96 million from Japan today. This latest contribution brings Japan’s total contributions to the Fund to EUR 53.36 million since its establishment.

This marks Japan’s eighth contribution to the SRTF and will support the expansion of the Fund’s operations under its Recovery and Stabilisation programmes in the Northwest (NWS) and Northeast (NES) regions of Syria.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “Many years of conflict have left the Syrian people in a desperate state. We must not let another year pass without exerting all our efforts towards a path to peace, security, and prosperity. Japan stands in solidarity with the people of Syria, and we will strive to make peace a reality for them.”

Eng. Hani Khabbaz, the SRTF Director General, expressed his gratitude, saying, “The SRTF extends its sincere appreciation to Japan for their unwavering commitment to our mission. With this latest contribution, we are empowered to extend our reach and impact, fostering hope and resilience in communities striving for a brighter tomorrow in Syria.”

This latest contribution has raised the total contributions from the SRTF’s 12 donor countries – including Germany, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Japan, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, as well as the Fund’s host countries, Türkiye and Jordan – to an impressive EUR 346.52 million.
