Iraq Joins Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization after Two Decades

The Ministry of Commerce made history today by participating in the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization for the first time since 2004. The event took place in Abu Dhabi, where Minister Atheer Al-Ghurairi delivered a speech during the preparatory meeting of Arab trade and economic ministers.

Al-Ghurairi expressed Iraq’s completion of the necessary requirements for joining the organization, emphasizing the importance of establishing balanced economic relations with countries worldwide. He highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the business environment, attracting investments, and implementing reforms in laws and legislation.

The Minister also extended gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for supporting Iraq’s accession to the WTO. He acknowledged the efforts of Saudi Arabia’s ambassador and his leadership in the working group for Iraq’s membership.

In terms of intra-trade and enhancing trade exchange among Arab nations, Al-Ghurairi stressed Iraq’s eagerness for Arab countries to play an active role in its economic development. He also congratulated the State of the Comoros and East Timor on their recent membership in the WTO.

Iraq’s participation in the Ministerial Conference signifies a significant step towards integrating into the global multilateral trading system and fostering economic cooperation on an international level.
