Investments in Employees and Community by SmithCo

SmithCo, a prominent business in the Le Mars area, recently celebrated its 30th year of successful operation. Founder Greg Smith reflected on the company’s growth from its humble beginnings of producing three trailers in the first year to now making 500 trailers annually. The company, which started in 1994, has seen tremendous expansion over the years, with 25 employees boasting over a decade of tenure at SmithCo.

Under the leadership of Scott Lovell, who joined the company in 2000 and now serves as president/CEO, SmithCo has made significant strides in the industry. The company’s products, including trailers that have evolved from general dump body style to various specialized applications, are now sold not only in every state of the United States but also in Canada, Mexico, Guam, South America, and the United Arab Emirates.

Looking ahead, SmithCo has ambitious plans for growth and expansion. A seven-year strategy aims to double the annual production to 1,200 trailers, with potential plant expansion and department enhancements on the horizon. This growth trajectory aligns with the company’s commitment to being an active member of the Le Mars community. SmithCo has collaborated with the city on various projects, underscoring its dedication to giving back and staying connected to the local area.

As SmithCo looks to the future, Lovell envisions the company becoming synonymous with side dump trailers, just as Le Mars is known as the ice cream capital of the world. The company’s emphasis on quality, innovation, and community engagement sets the stage for continued success and recognition on a global scale.
