Introducing the couple behind the authentic falafel in Prospect.
Mazen and Sahar El-Baba are carrying on their family legacy in a humble cafe in Prospect, serving up some of the best falafel you can find this side of the Middle East. With a menu rich in history and flavors, the El-Babas are quickly becoming culinary authorities in Adelaide.
Coming from a long line of culinary experts, the El-Baba family has been dishing out traditional Middle Eastern fare since the 1970s, spanning from Beirut to Dubai. Mazen and Sahar now bring their expertise to Adelaide, offering a unique take on falafel that is winning over the local clientele.
Respecting their roots, Mazen and Sahar stick to their Lebanese origins by only serving falafel in their cafe. While some customers were initially hesitant about the unfamiliar flavors, they have now come to trust the El-Babas to provide them with nourishing and delicious meals.
Mazen’s grandmother passed down the secret falafel recipe, which involves a meticulous three-day process of soaking and grinding chickpeas and split fava beans. The dedication to freshness extends to their organic farm-sourced produce and homemade dips, showcasing the couple’s commitment to quality ingredients.
In addition to their signature falafel wraps, the menu features a variety of Middle Eastern desserts and pastries, including a standout baklava that reflects Mazen’s French cooking education. The couple’s culinary journey, coupled with local community support, has allowed Falafel Station to thrive in Adelaide.
Continuing to innovate, Mazen and Sahar have expanded their offerings to include catering for events and a traditional Lebanese breakfast menu. With their two young sons also involved in the business, the El-Babas look forward to sharing their culinary journey with the Adelaide community for years to come.
