Innovative plantable cutlery makes a debut in the dining world

A pioneering eco-conscious startup in Dubai has recently introduced the world’s first plantable cutlery. Bloomspoon, based in Dubai, UAE, has crafted these innovative utensils from wheat straw, making them fully biodegradable.

Once used, consumers can plant the cutlery in damp soil at any angle, where seeds will sprout within 15-20 days. Mostafa Khattab, the founder and managing director of Bloomspoon, emphasized the importance of developing sustainable alternatives for the future of our planet and future generations.

Khattab stated, “Our plantable cutlery not only provides an eco-conscious choice but also aims to inspire others to make sustainable choices effortlessly. Each piece of our plantable cutlery brings us one step closer to reducing plastic waste, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering a circular economy.”

With the UAE’s ban on single-use plastics that took effect on January 1, 2024, Bloomspoon’s plantable cutlery aligns perfectly with the country’s commitment to sustainability. The ban will eventually expand to include other single-use plastic products such as plastic plates, food containers, tableware, and cups and lids.

Khattab explained, “We strive to promote sustainable behaviors through our products, incorporating the planting feature in all our offerings. Our goal is for consumers to not only purchase eco-friendly items but also engage in sustainable actions.”

In addition to plantable cutlery, Bloomspoon also offers cork grow kits, terracotta grow kits, plantable pencils, and bamboo toothbrushes to contribute further towards creating a more sustainable world. Their diverse range of products encourages individuals to embrace a more eco-friendly lifestyle and make a positive impact on the environment.
