‘Indonesia’s Deputy Minister Focuses on Joining Expos to Boost Exports’

Indonesia is making strides to expand its export market by participating in international exhibitions to showcase its products. The Deputy Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga, recently announced that the country is taking part in the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) exhibition in Shanghai, China, from May 28–30, 2024. The goal is to introduce Indonesian food and beverage products to international consumers, with a particular focus on the Asian market.

Sambuaga expressed the country’s commitment to reaching a broader international market and highlighting the excellence of Indonesian products on a global scale. The Indonesian Pavilion at the SIAL exhibition features products from eight exhibitors, including instant noodles, coffees, swift’s nests, cooking oil, tempe, and snacks. The pavilion is also hosting a coffee cupping session for visitors to experience the diverse range of Indonesian coffee flavors and aromas.

Indonesia has experienced significant growth in exports to China, the host country of the SIAL exhibition, with a 27.3 percent increase from 2019 to 2023. Key exports to China in 2023 included ferronickel, lignite, coal, matte nickel, and palm oil. On the other hand, Indonesia’s main imports from China in 2023 consisted of smartphones, automatic data processing machines, autonomous bulldozers, and insulated wires.

The SIAL Shanghai exhibition is being held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and is expected to attract 5,000 exhibitors from more than 70 countries. By participating in such international events, Indonesia aims to create more opportunities for its products in the global market and increase its exports.
