Improvement of roads in Abu Dhabi through AED 3 billion project

The Abu Dhabi government has approved a budget of AED 3 billion to enhance road connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve traffic safety in the region. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) will oversee a number of projects aimed at achieving these goals, with the biggest project being the construction of a 25 km Mid-island Parkway. This new five-lane road will connect islands to the mainland and have a capacity of up to 10,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.

The first phase of the Mid-island Parkway project will link Al Saadiyat Island and Umm Yifienah Street to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street and Al Reem Island, making travel between these areas more efficient. In addition, the Musaffah Road Traffic Improvements Project (E30) will focus on removing junctions on the road in both directions and reducing traffic on intersections within the Musaffah area and Mohamed bin Zayed City. Two new bridges will also be constructed to improve connectivity between Mohamed bin Zayed City and Mussafah.

Furthermore, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street (E20) will undergo enhancements including the connection of the airport intersection and the Bridges Complex intersection to improve traffic flow between Khalifa City and Zayed City. New bridges will also be built along Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road and 79th Street in Mohamed bin Zayed City to increase road capacity in these areas.

These projects are part of the ITC’s strategic vision for the future, aiming to create a more seamless and innovative transportation network in Abu Dhabi. The improvements will not only reduce congestion but also make travel safer and more convenient for residents and visitors alike.
