Humanitarian team from the UAE provides support to refugees and locals in Chad.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated a Ramadan program in Amdjarass, Chad, aimed at providing aid to Sudanese refugees and the local population. The ongoing program, led by the UAE humanitarian team, is in direct response to the call for urgent humanitarian assistance and support to vulnerable groups in the region.

The team, consisting of the Emirates Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, is collaborating with the UAE Aid Coordination Office in Chad. Their primary focus is on distributing essential Ramadan rations and assessing the needs of residents in nearby villages and towns to deliver necessary humanitarian aid.

As part of the initiative, 6,000 food baskets and 500 relief bags, along with living supplies, have been dispersed across different communities in Amdjarass. The Ramadan baskets contain essential food items like rice, flour, sugar, oils, grains, baby milk, and dates. In contrast, the relief bags consist of kitchen utensils, household equipment, and carpets to address the basic needs of families during the holy month.

Mohammed Idris, the Director of the Amdjarass Municipality, has commended the UAE’s consistent humanitarian efforts. He emphasized that the distribution of food baskets and relief supplies to impoverished villages greatly alleviates the struggles faced by needy families.

Furthermore, Dr. Salem Al Ameri, Head of the UAE Field Hospital in Chad, highlighted the hospital’s impact since its establishment on July 9, 2023. The hospital has treated approximately 20,000 patients, including Sudanese refugees and local community members, offering a wide range of medical services, from simple to complex surgeries.

Dr. Al Ameri also stated that the hospital would remain operational during Ramadan to provide medical assistance to those affected by the ongoing situation in Sudan, thereby assisting Chad in addressing the humanitarian challenges brought about by the refugee influx.
